Sharepoint Europe Blog Post

Recent articles on using SharePoint in learning, education and training

26 July 2011 by John Kleeman

I'm speaking at the European SharePoint Conference on  "Measuring Social Learning in SharePoint with Assessments" and thought you might be interested in some recent articles around the web on SharePoint in learning, education and training.

Most recent is this blog from EPCGroup which gives a positive but realistic view on using SharePoint for learning: "SharePoint 2010 - A Learning Management System (LMS) for Government\DoD, Private Sector\Fortune 1000, and Educational Institutions"
http://epcgroup.blogspot.com/2011/07/sharepoint-2010-learning-management.html.

A more critical (or if you prefer more balanced) view by e-learning analyst Craig Weiss entitled "SharePoint - Social Learning Savior"is at http://elearninfo247.com/2011/05/17/sharepoint-social-learning-savior/.

Another very interesting article by Ray Fleming of Microsoft Australia notes that one third of colleges are considering changing their learning management system - he's not saying that they should be looking at SharePoint instead, but you can guess which direction his thoughts are going: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/education/archive/2011/05/24/one-third-of-colleges-considering-changing-their-learning-management-system.aspx

On the subject of SharePoint for Education, my interview with Dave Coleman on why choose SharePoint in education was recently published on Nothing But SharePoint, see https://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/sites/eusp/Pages/Why-choose-SharePoint-for-Education-Thought-Leader-Interview-with-Dave-Coleman.aspx.

If you're interested in SharePoint in learning, education and training, check out my blog on SharePoint and assessments at http://blog.sharepointlearn.com, and look forward to meeting you at the European SharePoint conference in October.
