There is a way to build a personal dashboard with the Content-Search webpart. You can use a User-Profile property to enable the Content-Search webpart to display only data that is relevant for the current user.
During all the SharePoint projects that I’ve been involved with the thing we always have lengthy discussions on is quick wins. SharePoint is one of the products that vary quite a lot compared to other products that developers has to engage with. If we look at what SharePoint had in 2007 the improvements in 2010, it has built up lot of potentials to it. Comparing 2010 with 2013 version is another big ask. So will these customization we make will affect a migration and performance after migration? The answer is YES. But this does not mean we should not customize SharePoint.
