About a Microsoft SharePoint MVP

SharePoint MVP - Chris Mc NultyEarlier this month, Chris McNulty SharePoint CTO of Dell Software, was recognized as a Microsoft SharePoint MVP.  This award reflects McNulty’s continued dedication to the SharePoint community.

Created nearly two decades ago, Microsoft’s MVP program is Microsoft’s way of saying ‘thank you’ to exceptional community leaders who share their passion, technical expertise and real-world knowledge of Microsoft’s products with others.

SharePoint is a particularly vibrant community with over 200 MVP’s worldwide.  These folks contribute in a myriad of ways.

Microsoft’s rigorous nomination process

The fact is, there’s no secret formula. There are many potential paths to becoming an MVP but each person must find his or her own way to the award.  We do know, however, the award comes out of commitment, involvement, technical knowledge and leadership.

Here are a few ways to get closer to the award – keep in mind that you must donate your time freely and willingly to do these things and not receive compensation in exchange for this time.

1)     Blogging.  Aside from his own active blog , Chris contributes to sharepointforall and other 3rd party blog sites regularly. Chris also participates in both MSFT and non-MSFT support sites around SharePoint;

2)    Writing and publishing:  Chris’s newest book “SharePoint 2013 Consultant’s Handbook” is coming out very soon;

3)    Speaking events and User Groups:  Chris has traveled all over the globe speaking at conferences, user groups and SharePoint Saturdays.  His family will attest to the amount of time he has spent traveling for the cause!

4)    Organize an event.  Involvement with a SharePoint Saturday or other non-profit SharePoint event.

Clearly, these individuals have given up a lot of family time to play a vital role in the adoption and the advancement of Microsoft’s products and technology.  If not for these devoted individuals, we would not have the vivacious SharePoint community that we leverage for the betterment of SharePoint education and adoption today.
