Lifewire.com describes the word “app” as an abbreviation for “application.” It’s a piece of software that can run through a web browser or offline on your computer, and on a smartphone phone, tablet or other electronic devices, including smart TVs and smartwatches. Apps may or may not have a connection to the internet.
App is a modern term for software application, and it is most often used in reference to a mobile app or a small piece of software that runs on a website. It’s typically used to describe anything that isn’t a full-fledged software program, but even that line has become blurred.
Therefore, the Apps category is blurred too, but is full of handy tips, tricks and advise. Check out some of the Step by Step blogs or learn with our eBooks, How To videos and Webinars.

One of the things we struggle with as SharePoint developers is that we have worked long and hard to master the techniques of server-side SharePoint development and keep up with the rise and fall of technologies and products like Sandbox Solutions and SharePoint Designer. We built up our portfolio of custom web parts that we could compose into solutions for our clients. Maybe we started mixing a bit of AJAX and JavaScript in there to spice up the user experience.
We SharePoint developers have had a bit of a hard time. The administrators don’t like us because our solutions can be complicated to deploy and we get blamed for bringing down the farm (sometimes with justification).
