Connector for SharePoint Search

This submission was made by Communardo Software GmbH as part of the European SharePoint Community Awards 2014 for Best Search Solution.

Description of the SharePoint Challenge

In companies information is often scattered in external systems. Are you familiar with the constant switching between Confluence and SharePoint when searching for content? Do you know that feeling of uncertainty when it comes to not knowing which system contains which information? And last but not least – do you pursue the vision of a single Enterprise Search that can be used to find information regardless of which LOB application it is stored in?

For companies that use Microsoft SharePoint as well as an Atlassian Confluence Wiki it is a challenge to get the contents from both systems indexed and displayed using a single search interface. So Communardo has taken remedial action and, by now providing the Connector for SharePoint Search, has closed this gap.

Communardo proudly presents the Connector for SharePoint Search – a product for finding all the information of a Confluence Enterprise Wikis directly from SharePoint Search. This product is for everybody using Confluence and SharePoint in parallel or who is planning to do so.

Outline of the approach to solving the problem

SharePoint Search is the solution that can provide one entry point to all systems. It is scalable, customizable and extendable. The Connector for SharePoint Search enables SharePoint to index line-of-business (LOB) data from Confluence Enterprise Wikis. On a technical level, it extends SharePoint Search and feeds data from external systems into its index using the Indexing Connector Framework.
The following content from Confluence will be indexed by SharePoint: spaces, pages, blog posts, attachments, labels and comments. Search results in SharePoint will be security trimmed according to the permissions and restrictions set in Confluence. Thus the connector seamlessly makes data from a 3rd party system findable via SharePoint Enterprise Search, preserving a consistent and familiar search experience for users of SharePoint.
