We can create a Microsoft Teams channel for your existing SharePoint team to use extended features like real-time chat, file sharing, and collaboration. You cannot create a separate team in Microsoft teams for a subsite. Team sites that are connected to a group will first need to connect to a Microsoft 365 group before they can be added to Microsoft teams.

Below are the steps:

Step 1

Navigate to https://teams.microsoft.com/ and click on “Join or Create a team”.

Step 2

Click on Create team.

Step 3

Select “From a group or team” option in popup.

Step 4

Now, select “Microsoft 365 group”.

Step 5

In this step, select the SharePoint team site you wanted to create the teams channel for and click “Create”.

Result

It will create a new teams channel for your existing SharePoint team site for real-time chat and easily collaborate with the team.
