Top 5 Twitter Accounts they would recommend the community to follow

Twitter has become a one-stop-shop for all things SharePoint where you can find information and interact directly with its curator. Most authors and speakers have active accounts with multiple updates daily; leading up to a conference, many are talking about the show, promoting updates, sessions and (possibly) discounts. If you aren’t getting social with SharePoint, you need to be. Here are my 5 top accounts, assuming that you already follow me @rizinsights, of course!
@mkashman – Mark Kashman is a SharePoint product team member with Microsoft, his tweets are always interesting and discuss what is on the bleeding edge in our space
@buckleyplanet – Christian Buckley is Chief Evangelist at Metalogix with constant insights into the SharePoint, AIIM and social space.
@sharepoint – the Microsoft SharePoint account, run by Microsoft, provides the latest information on our favorite product; it is not to be missed.
@joeloleson – If you’re in the SharePoint world, you’ve heard of Joel. A former member of the SharePoint product team, Joel is a speaker, author, evangelist and expert who travels the world sharing SharePoint with those he meets and speaks to.
@whymicrosoft – this is a new follow for me; it’s a continuing conversation about how Microsoft solutions compare to competition and drive productivity for people and their organizations. Though it is not SharePoint specific, it has valuable insights and comparative case studies from which to learn.

Featured eBook – an eBook that they have found to be beneficial

I’m going to suggest a book that is slightly outside the realm of the typical e-book that is highlighted in these articles. Microsoft’s IT Professional Reviewer’s Guide for SharePoint Server 2013 is a 25 page guide that I believe EVERYONE in the SharePoint world should read. It talks about lower IT costs, scalability, risk management, security, reliability and efficiency of SharePoint; it is possibly the most under-rated resource for an overview of the product and platform. http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=34023

Featured Video – A SharePoint video that you believe would be of interest to the European SharePoint Community

I often get asked, and challenge audiences with the question “what the key is to SharePoint Success”. Though there is no hard and fast answer to the question, Microsoft’s Richard Harbridge takes a shot at answering this age old question in this presentation video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF77-EagmFo

Top 5 SharePoint Articles

I can’t provide 5 that would come to the top of such an exhaustive list of resources and information. There is so much content online that we all have access to and, depending on your interests, you should seek out content that is of value to you. No matter what you read and where your interests lie, remember one thing; SharePoint is an enterprise platform, not an application. I have an article on my blog at http://www.ericriz.com/is-sharepoint-an-enterprise-platform that discusses this point in greater detail. Organizations must align themselves with this statement in order to plan out, and achieve, long-term SharePoint success; which should be your communicated goal for the team and company.

Highlight a cool SharePoint tool

Mindjet www.mindjet.com is a phenomenal tool that I use daily. Whether you are brainstorming, managing meetings, running projects or looking for a place to get some ideas down, Mindjet is the tool for you. It also integrates with SharePoint for site navigation, mapping and task linking.

A little commentary

This is an incredible time to be in the SharePoint space, and I am excited and enthused about all I have seen recently in the community. The SharePoint world is continuing to grow, and more and more companies are expanding their enterprises with its capabilities. Microsoft’s commitment to the next server-version of SharePoint has reinvigorated the on-premise conversation, and I expect that to be a focal point of discussion at SPC14 in Las Vegas, and ESPC14 in Barcelona. I look forward to seeing you at these events and more in 2014 to talk about governance, social, strategy and more.
