Twitter has become a one-stop-shop for all things SharePoint where you can find information and interact directly with its curator.
Given my history with education and the friendships that have built up over the years I had to include this one.
Back in 1997, between working full-time, attending business school in the evening, and trying to get my own software startup off the ground, I began working with a developer on building out an integrated instant messaging (IM) client for my startup’s collaboration platform.
Microsoft has recently rolled out new elements of their integration roadmap between Yammer and SharePoint /Office 365 (For background, here’s the announcement.) There’s a lot to it, including new mobile clients and the ability to launch new discussions directly from documents in SharePoint Online. But let’s focus on email integration and Yammer Enterprise.
SharePoint is many things to different companies. To some, it’s a document management platform with an enterprise-grade, federated search system; to others it functions as a communication platform, corporate intranet, project management portal, and scheduling tool and for others still it’s a content management system for hosting websites.
It’s amazing to watch the confusion followed by crazy mudslinging that’s going on in the market these days. The big acquisition a year ago by Microsoft has endorsed enterprise social in a big way. I’m personally looking forward to the big battles ahead of head on SalesForce.com with Chatter, and Jive Software as well as Microsoft Social with CRM and SharePoint and more building on the Yammer social roadmap. Looking forward to following this in my new role. Microsoft has made big bets, and over the course of the next year I hope and expect to see a clearer road ahead.

In my second Social 101 session presented this week at the Worldwide Partner Conference (#WPC13, www.digitalwpc.com) in Houston, I tried to shed some light on the confusion between social features in SharePoint 2013 and Yammer. My session directly followed that of the Yammer team, who stood by throughout my session (I suspect to ensure that I didn’t say anything crazy).
In the previous articles we saw that process innovation declined with the wise definition of crowd sourcing and collective intelligence is a very important lesson learnt from Social Network even more considering the new conversation patterns between user and systems enforced by context aware application, but what we can learn from implementation of such systems, which are the insights we can capture? Is there anything that can consider in our daily business? Can we run another trip over some common social networks features and consider the correspondents in our daily business? Let’s continue the journey with our new friend FourSquare using it as our playground to play and explore its technical features and we’ll see whether we can get inspired.
