New Microsoft Purview DLP Support for Fabric Warehouses

If you have been navigating the world of Microsoft Fabric, you already know how incredible it is to have all your data living together in OneLake. But as our data grows, so does the responsibility of keeping it safe. I am excited to share some great news: starting in February 2026, Microsoft is making it even easier to protect your sensitive information.

What is Changing?

Microsoft Purview is expanding its Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools to include Fabric Warehouses.

Think of DLP as a digital safety net. It scans your data for sensitive information, such as credit card numbers or internal IDs, and makes sure they do not end up where they should not. While this was already working for other parts of Fabric, it is now officially moving into the Warehouse space.

Why This Matters for You

The best part about this update is that it is designed to be completely “set it and forget it.”

  • Automatic Protection: If you already have DLP policies set up for Fabric or Power BI, you do not have to lift a finger. They will automatically start looking out for your Warehouse data too.
  • Zero Disruption: This happens behind the scenes. Your team can keep building reports and running queries exactly as they do today without any interruptions.
  • A Unified Security Front: By bringing Warehouses into the fold, you are closing a gap and ensuring that your structured SQL data is just as secure as your other Power BI assets.

The Timeline

You will start seeing this roll out in early February 2026, and it should be active for everyone by the end of the month.

A Quick Note for Admins: While you do not need to change any settings, you might notice your protected asset count in your Purview billing go up slightly because it now includes these warehouse objects. It is a good idea to give your finance or compliance teams a quick heads-up!

How to Prepare

Honestly? Just keep doing what you are doing. This update is a rare win-win where your security gets stronger without adding more work to your plate. If you are curious, now is a great time to peek at your current DLP policies in Microsoft Purview just to see what is being protected.

It is a big step toward a more worry-free data environment, allowing us to focus on what we do best, finding insights and driving value, while the system handles the heavy lifting of safety.
