Challange: A global professional services
firm commissioned MacroView to conduct a Proof of Concept around
the volume handling capability of a DM solution based on Microsoft
SharePoint and MacroView DMF. The firm was interested in moving to
a SharePoint-based solution to replace their existing OpenText
system. They liked the way MacroView DMF enhanced the functionality
and user experience for performing DM tasks on SharePoint but were
concerned that SharePoint would not be able to cope with their
large numbers of clients and projects, or their volume of
documents..

Benefits and Outcomes: MacroView created a
SharePoint environment called ATLAS and provisioned it with three
times as many clients and projects as occurred in a typical office
of the firm. Over 3.2 million documents and emails were migrated
into the new proof of concept environment. Subsequently MacroView
DMF was shown to operate with excellent performance and that
several published limitations of SharePoint do not apply if
MacroView DMF is deployed.

A key reason for DMF’s good performance is the purpose-built DMF
web service, which uses filtering and search techniques to rapidly
navigate and which dramatically reduces the volume of XML returned
to the client, compared to the out-of-the-box web services that
ship with SharePoint. In addition to efficient browsing and
navigating of the SharePoint Site / Library tree, MacroView DMF
also provides a convenient and intuitive interface to the
SharePoint Search and Fast Search engines.
