Company Name: Dell

Challenge : Golder Associates is an employee-owned
company with international expertise in ground engineering, earth
and environmental services. Like many organizations, Golder uses
Microsoft SharePoint to communicate, plan and operate more
efficiently. Since 2007, Golder had been using Quest (now part of
Dell) Web Parts for SharePoint to enhance the capabilities of a
SharePoint farm at a single location. But as the company’s use of
SharePoint as a global intranet increased, so, too, did the size
and complexity of its SharePoint environment.

The information management (IM) groups at Golder have limited .NET
and programming resources so each change request had become a
challenge, and Golder needed a better solution.  “SharePoint
is powerful, but not easy to work with out of the box,” explained
Kim Forchhammer, founder of the information management group at
Golder Associates, Sweden. “There were many limitations on how we
could view and present data. Since we are very dependent on the
platform, we wanted to be able to easily use and customize our
SharePoint content.”

Benefits and Outcomes: “Our SharePoint consultants
tried Quest (now part of Dell)  Web Parts it and
thought it was a good solution for our needs,” recalls Forchhammer.
Quest Web Parts radically simplifies SharePoint application
development and customization by enabling users to configure rather
than code, reducing the time required to build applications and
eliminating the need for expensive development resources.

Using Quest (now part of Dell)   Web Parts
for SharePoint, Golder’s IM staff is now able to easily create
applications and display data in SharePoint in relevant and
meaningful ways. And they find it easier to teach other employees
how to create and customize their own content.  “Quest Web
Parts enables us to do all of our development work in-house – we do
not have to pay expensive .NET experts every time we want to
customize something,” said Forchhammer.  He added, “I think
there are many organizations without SharePoint development experts
that still need to control the platform. Quest Web Parts for
SharePoint would be the perfect solution.”
