When we focus on Social in a Microsoft context, we are talking about SharePoint, Teams, Teamwork and Yammer. Social can be a private network that helps employees collaborate across departments, locations and even business apps, it can be your company’s private network, your Facebook and Twitter handle, however various other applications are used to help you and your team stay on top of it all. With SharePoint and other Microsoft technologies, this is a broad subject which is constantly evolving.

Of course I would naturally highlight Beezy as the coolest SharePoint tool, because it helps user adoption in any SharePoint deployment. However, taking into consideration the audience and my background I will highlight AutoSPInstaller, from @brianlala and other developers.
Over the last few months there have been three different hot topics in the SharePoint world. SharePoint and Yammer integration, the decision to retire some of the existing certification paths and the new development model.

It’s amazing to watch the confusion followed by crazy mudslinging that’s going on in the market these days. The big acquisition a year ago by Microsoft has endorsed enterprise social in a big way. I’m personally looking forward to the big battles ahead of head on SalesForce.com with Chatter, and Jive Software as well as Microsoft Social with CRM and SharePoint and more building on the Yammer social roadmap. Looking forward to following this in my new role. Microsoft has made big bets, and over the course of the next year I hope and expect to see a clearer road ahead.

Those who listened to my keynote will understand that I am very passionate about SharePoint and Mobile. The mobile revolution of BYOD is here. In fact, 67% of the people who use a smartphone for work and 70% of those who use a tablet for work are choosing the device themselves. They aren’t necessarily thinking about whether their enterprise will support it.
In my second Social 101 session presented this week at the Worldwide Partner Conference (#WPC13, www.digitalwpc.com) in Houston, I tried to shed some light on the confusion between social features in SharePoint 2013 and Yammer. My session directly followed that of the Yammer team, who stood by throughout my session (I suspect to ensure that I didn’t say anything crazy).
It’s been an exciting week for Dell Software and many others who have gathered in Houston for the Microsoft World Wide Partner Conference. One of the many exciting themes of the conference has been Microsoft’s announcement that the US Office and SharePoint App Stores will be supporting an additional 22 markets with localized Office and SharePoint storefronts.
