[#Office 365] iOS Apps Galaxy

After describing the whole Office 365 mobile landscape, I would like here to give some more details on the iOS set of apps, related to Office 365.

iOS Apps

I dug a lot this later time on all the MS apps for Office 365 and I noticed a great similarity on apps for iPad and apps for iPhone.
Here are all the Microsoft apps as seen in the US Store:

All Microsoft Apps

With all the announcements in the last months, iOS is really become the de facto mobile platform of choice for Microsoft.
Almost all mobile apps from Microsoft are there, and certainly the most visible.

Pat 1.1We should notice that Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps have been introduced first on iOS and after on Android. They are not available yet on Windows Phone.

They will, without no doubt, be the model for the next Office Touch version

Pat 1.3OneNote is fully operational on iOS and similar to what we can found on other platforms.

Microsoft has just announced this week the launch of Outlook for iOS which will provide an even richer interaction with email on the platform. It will at the end replace the previous OWA App, when it will have all the capabilities the later app has, like for example viewing RMS protected mail or Encrypted email.

At this time you have two more apps in this area: Office 365 Message Encryption Viewer and RMS Sharing.

Pat 1.4Office 365 OME allows email users to send and receive encrypted messages, where RMS Sharing allows you to securely collaborate with others. You can view protected files that others have shared with you. You can also take pictures or choose one from your camera roll, protect and share them with your coworkers and friends.

Pat 1.5One of the strange thing on the platform was the presence of two OneDrive apps: one to connect to OneDrive (the service dedicated to personal Cloud storage) and one to connect to OneDrive for Business (the business offering, part of Office 365).

This will no longer be the case in the near future as the “old” OneDrive for Business will probably be removed from the store and the “new” OneDrive (version 5.0 of Jan 28, 2015) is now able to connect to both OneDrive and OneDrive for Business (more precisely you can join one personal account and several Office 365 accounts)

Pat 1.8As on all the platform, the browser is platform specific and it’s here Safari Mobile. It’s fully supported from iOS 6 and above. The best usages for it are, to my mind, accessing Delve and the Admin Center of Office 365. You can easily browse to this site starting from the special tiles page, on iPad or iPhone :

Here are some Delve screens:

And the Admin Center on iPad and a report on iPhone:

Pat 1.6As far as Social interactions and Communications are concerned, you can also find a great set of tools here with:

Lync 2013 (and 2010 – to be merged with Skype in Skype for business)
Yammer
Yammer now (instant messaging inside Yammer service – as this apps is available only on iOS we can expect it to be removed in the future)
SharePoint Newsfeed (for the customers not willing to deploy Yammer)

Pat 1.2Last but not least, the set of admin apps are also fully complete with:

Office 365 Admin (to always have access to the services status on the go)
Partner Admin for Office 365 (in fact not an Microsoft apps but really better than the default one )
Intune Company Portal (to search, browse and install apps made available to you by your organization)

To conclude, here are my full icons sets on iPhone and iPad:
